Students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (F.H.T.M.) at Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) visited the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its teaching hotel, Hotel ICON, on March 30, 2023, and April 20, 2023, respectively. The visit provided students with an opportunity to understand the innovative food and beverage and room service operations of this hotel, and to see how the theoretical knowledge they have learned is applied in practice. After observing the hotel environment, the students had the opportunity to communicate with the hotel staff.

The visit was divided into two parts: a tour of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a tour of the teaching hotel, Hotel ICON. During the tour, the staff of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management introduced the courses offered by the university. The students learned that the classrooms in the university also function as hotel conference rooms, increasing the utilization rate of the facilities, which is a special feature of the shared building between the teaching building and the teaching hotel. Throughout the visit, the students interacted with the staff and learned about the innovative service concept of Hotel ICON.
Wei Xunhong, a student in the Master of Hotel Management program, said that during the visit to the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, whether it was the advanced course arrangement and teaching environment, the vast amount of cutting-edge information in the university’s exclusive library or the university’s own practice base - a high-star-rated hotel, all made the students impressed. He hopes to have more opportunities to learn about the forefront of the industry in the future, and to continue to demonstrate the fighting spirit and progress of M.U.S.T. students.
