From November 28 to 30, 2025, the Founding Conference of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Higher Education Institutions Geography Education Alliance and the 2025 Symposium on Collaborative Development of Geography Practical Education in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao were held in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, Zhuhai. This event marked the first large-scale, cross-regional, and interdisciplinary collaborative exchange in the field of geography education within the Greater Bay Area. It brought together over 100 experts and scholars from more than 20 universities across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, representing disciplines such as geography and tourism.
During the opening ceremony on November 29, the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Higher Education Institutions Geography Education Alliance” was officially inaugurated. Representatives from the founding institutions, including South China Normal University, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Macau University of Science and Technology, took part in the unveiling ceremony.
Professor Ben K. Goh, Dean of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management at Macau University of Science and Technology, attended and delivered remarks on behalf of Macao’s higher education institutions. The university’s delegation included Associate Professor Tang Juan, Assistant Professor Yang Kaihan, Assistant Professor Liu Chao, as well as a group of nearly twenty undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. Several distinguished guests delivered keynote reports on the collaborative development of geography education, laying a theoretical foundation for the Alliance’s future aims of resource sharing and joint advancement in geography education across the region.

On the evening of November 29, Associate Professor Tang Juan from the Macau University of Science and Technology delivered a keynote speech titled “Poetry and Distant Lands: Cultivating Happiness in Tourism Internships.” Drawing on case studies from student internships at Hengqin’s cultural and tourism attractions, she shared insightful reflections that inspired lively discussion among participants.

On November 30, participants conducted field visits to the Hengqin Geographical Observation Station and nearby cultural and tourism sites, gathering valuable resources for future practical projects. The conference encompassed the full process from preparation and inauguration to academic seminars and field research, thereby establishing a collaborative platform for geographical education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and outlining clear pathways for interdisciplinary talent cultivation.
