To celebrate MUST’s 26th Anniversary, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) held the first lecture of “Seminars by Masters from Tourism Industry” on March 6th, 2026 at D Hall. Mr. Jens Busch, Vice President of HVS Executive Search for Europe and Asia Pacific was invited as the guest speaker and provided an inspiring lecture entitled “Senior Leadership Development in Hospitality Management: Success Strategies for MUST Graduates”. Prof. Wong Weng Chou, Assistant Dean of FHTM, Program Director Dr. Brenda Yang, Program Director Dr. Feng Yan, Program Director Dr. Pan Su Ying and more than 400 teachers and students attended the seminar.

Dr. Wong Weng Chou delivered a warm welcome speech to Mr. Jens Busch on behalf of the faculty, and encouraged students to listen attentively to the experience sharing of industry experts, explore the path of leadership development in hospitality management through interactive exchanges with the guest, and hoped that students could have a clearer direction for their future career planning through this lecture.

During the lecture, Mr. Jens Busch recalled his diverse career path, starting as a hotel management trainee, taking on operational roles in various international groups, and eventually transitioning to an executive headhunter, vividly demonstrating the broad development space for practitioners in the hospitality industry. Following this, he deeply analyzed the five core sectors of the hospitality industry and pointed out that Macau, as a global tourism hub, provides graduates with abundant opportunities to enter the industry from frontline positions. Facing industry competition, Mr. Jens Busch suggested that students prioritize cultivating soft skills such as communication and empathy, demonstrate professionalism and confidence in interviews, and make good use of the alumni network to expand connections. Finally, Mr. Jens Busch delivered a message to the students present, emphasizing that the hospitality industry values practical experience more, and accumulating abilities from the grassroots level is also a solid stepping stone to leadership positions. He hoped that everyone could grasp the wave of industry recovery and achieve steady and long-term progress in their future careers.

Through this lecture, the students not only gained a clearer understanding of the diverse development paths in the hospitality industry but also acquired practical guidance ranging from interview skills to networking, which enhanced their confidence in their future career development and laid a solid foundation for their upcoming journey in the workplace.
