A Visit to Morpheus Hotel

On December 18, 2019, Dr. Salott Chau led a group of FHTM students (DE1 BITM 1307 and DE3-5 BITM1309) to visit the Morpheus Hotel. After gathering in the hotel lobby, the FHTM students were introduced about the hotel design (an artistic idea of the late architectural designer Zaha Hadid).

The hotel was created with the word "8" as the design theme; there was no support column inside the hotel. It was the first skyscraper supported by free-form skeleton structure in the world. Then, the students observed two different types of hotel rooms – a standard deluxe room and a suite. Students learned about the various types of hotel rooms (770) at Morpheus Hotel. All in-room facilities are controlled electronically. The bathroom design can meet the specific needs of customers; including non-slippery floor, warm floor, etc. All mattresses are adjustable to raise up to the level convenient for staff to make a bed (a caring provision to all housekeeping staff). Rooms are equipped with all-round comfortable seats to provide customers with the best experience.

On the catering side, Morpheus Hotel hired famous chef Dukas Alain Ducasse to create one distinctive "Dukas restaurants" named after himself. In addition, he also formed a partnership with Pierre Herme to establish a French dessert outlet known as “Picasso” with specialty in the pastry world. In addition, the whole group visited the area around the Morpheus spa, which is also the attractive spot of the whole hotel, especially the unique "snow garden" device which presents a virtual and authentic snow scene for customers.

Finally, students visited the Heart of House of City of Dreams (COD) showing all specific provision for employees such as recognized awards, resting lounge, staff canteen and laundry. Students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to visit this modern and artistically designed hotel and be able to understand the welfare; requirements and job opportunities from COD.
