As part of the celebration of M.U.S.T.’s 24th Anniversary, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) held the first session of this semester’s “Distinguished Scholar Forum of Hospitality and Tourism Management” successfully on March 27, 2024. Professor Du Guoqing, College of Tourism, Rikkyo University, Japan, was invited as the guest speaker. Prof. Timothy Lee, Vice Dean of FHTM, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor Zhang Yang, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor Wong Weng Chou, and more than 150 teachers and students attended this lecture.

In the lecture, Prof. Du Guoqing transitioned from the definition of geography and classification of the subject to the origin and development of human geography, introducing in detail the main theories and methods involved in human geography. By combining human geography and tourism studies, Prof. Du described in depth the choice of restaurants in Tokyo for Chinese tourists. Professor Du hopes that students will actively explore and discover research topics that can be integrated with human geography under the Hospitality and Tourism Management program. Prof. Du’s lecture provided new perspectives on human geography and the field of hospitality and tourism management.

During the discussion and Q&A session, the students actively participated by asking questions. Professor Guoqing Du provided thorough and detailed answers, drawing from his personal experiences to offer constructive insights and clarification to the students. The lecture concluded successfully through intense discussions between Professor Guoqing Du and the students. Through this lecture, the students gained a fresh understanding and insight into the research topics that combine human geography with hotel and tourism management. It broadened their research perspectives and provided them with better ideas and innovation for their own research topics.
