The event “Things Graduate Students MUST Know: Becoming an Expert in a Particular Field of Research” organized by the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) and cohosted by the Student Union of the FHTM of Macau University of Science and Technology was successfully held on April 10, 2024 at Room N317.

The event invited the widely popular Assistant Dean Associate Professor Wong Weng Chou and Program Director Associate Professor Pan Su-Ying from the FHTM, to share their insights with the master’s and doctoral students of our school, aiming to help students improve their academic ability and better plan their future academic career. The event was attended by esteemed guests including Professor Ben K. Goh, Dean of the FHTM, Professor Timothy Lee, Associate Professor Pai Chen-Kuo, Assistant Professor Liu Chao, as well as many other teachers and students from FHTM who listened attentively to the event.

Before the event, Professor Ben K. Goh, Dean of the FHTM, delivered an opening speech and presented commemorative gifts to the two guest speakers. First, Associate Professor Pan Su-Ying told the students how to become an expert in a research field by summarizing and sharing her own research achievements. Then, Associate Professor Wong Weng Chou described different types of scholars and experts and emphasized the necessary conditions for becoming an expert in a research field -- excellent academic ability. The two professors also shared their experiences in thesis writing, which clarified the career development direction for the students present and laid a solid foundation for them to become experts in a certain research field in the future.

After the guests’ sharing, the students actively put forward their own ideas and questions, and had a more in-depth exchange with the three guests, thus drawing a perfect ending to the event.
