The 11th “Hotelier Experience Sharing” symposium, organized by the Student Union of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, was successfully held on November 18, 2024, in Room O702 at the Macao University of Science and Technology. This event featured alumni currently working in the hotel industry sharing their experiences, helping current students gain early insights into the working environment and actual operations of the hotel industry.

The event invited three alumni who have worked for many years in internationally renowned hotels and hold managerial positions as guest speakers. They were Hong Zhengying (The Ritz-Carlton Harbin), Yan Zhiyuan (Grand Hyatt Macau), and Xu Bao (Zhuhai Marriott Hotel). Many faculty and students attended the event, including Prof. Ben K. Goh, Dean of FHTM, Prof. Wong Weng Chou, Assistant Dean of FHTM, Dr. Yang Chieh-Yun, Program Director of FHTM, Associate Professor Dr. Pai Chen-Kuo, Assistant Professor Hong Fang, Assistant Professor Yang Kaihan, and Assistant Professor Liu Chao.

Before the seminar began, Prof. Ben K. Goh, Dean of FHTM delivered a welcome speech and presented souvenirs to the three alumni. The alumni then shared their bittersweet experiences from many years of working in hotels. Each alumnus recounted their personal journey from inexperienced student to workplace elite, sharing the perseverance and courage they exhibited when facing challenges, as well as the professionalism and passion reflected in service details. They not only discussed successful cases in their work but also candidly addressed the setbacks and failures they encountered. Through their real-life stories, they conveyed to the students that every experience is a valuable asset for growth. At the end of the event, students actively asked questions covering career planning, skill enhancement, industry trends, and personal growth. The alumni patiently answered, offering practical advice that made the students feel the warmth and encouragement from their predecessors, filling them with more confidence and anticipation for the future.
