The award ceremony for the “2024 Macau Economic Essay Competition,” organized by the Macau Economic Society and supported by the Macau Foundation, was held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2:30 PM in Hall 4 on the fourth floor of the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Center. The competition featured two categories—the Student Group and the Public Group—and attracted over a hundred scholars. Faculty and students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) achieved outstanding results in the competition.
Among the winners, Assistant Professor Hong Fang, Master student Xiao Yuexian, and their team won the First Prize in the Public Group, the competition's highest honor, with their paper titled "Research on the Wellness-Oriented Transformation Path of Macau Hotels: Strategies and Practices for Building Macau as a Health Tourism Destination." Their research focused on the wellness transformation of Macau’s hotel industry, providing practical strategies and implementation paths for establishing Macau as a health tourism destination.

Additionally, Assistant Dean Jose Wong and the FHTM graduate student team, consisting of Wang Jiaojiao, Song Yuxin, and Zhang Shiyi, received the Merit Award in the Public Group for their paper "Exploring the Path to Recovery and Diversified Development Strategies for Macau’s MICE Industry." This research delved into the post-pandemic recovery of Macau’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, proposing diversified development strategies for rapid recovery.

Macau Economic Essay Competition not only provides a platform for faculty and students from local universities to participate and offers policy advice to the government, but it also garners significant attention from government departments. The suggestions from the award-winning papers will be submitted to relevant government agencies for reference. The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management at MUST will continue to actively engage in local events and contribute to Macau’s economic development by researching and addressing key economic issues.
