To celebrate M.U.S.T.’s 25th Anniversary, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) held the first lecture of “Seminars by Masters from Tourism Industry” on March 7th, 2025, in a hybrid format both online via Zoom and offline at N101. Dr. Zhang Jianzhong, the Chairman of the China Travel Service (Macau) Limited was invited as the guest speaker and provided an inspiring lecture entitled “Taking Proactive Steps to High-Quality Development of Macao as a World Center of Tourism and Leisure”. Dr. Wong Weng Chou, Assistant Dean of FHTM, Program Director Dr. Brenda Yang, Program Director Dr. Feng Yan, Program Director Pan Su Ying and more than 400 teachers and students attended the seminar.

Dr. Wong Weng Chou delivered an opening speech and encourages the students to listen attentively to Dr Zhang's experience sharing. Through interaction and communication with experts, students can delve into the future trends of the industry. Dr. Wong Weng Chou also hoped that the students could through this lecture, student can gain a deeper understanding of Macau's tourism economy.

Dr. Wong Weng Chou Presented a Souvenir to Dr. Zhang Jianzhong

During the lecture, Dr. Zhang Jianzhong reviewed Macau's economic development in 2024, highlighting the significant recovery of the economy and the continuous growth in inbound tourists, which demonstrated the strong momentum of the tourism industry. Dr. Zhang projected that Macau's tourism market would continue to prosper in 2025, achieving even greater success with the support of national policies. However, Dr. Zhang also pointed out that global economic uncertainties and intensifying competition pose challenges to Macau's tourism industry. To promote high-quality development of the tourism sector, he proposed several recommendations, including enhancing tourism facilities, advancing the integration of "tourism+" with other industries, and developing landmark cultural and tourism projects. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of strengthening the integration of Macau and Hengqin, participating in the development of the Greater Bay Area, and attracting more domestic and international tourists. In conclusion, Dr. Zhang expressed that 2025 would be a year full of opportunities and challenges, and with the collective efforts of all sectors, Macau's tourism industry is poised for even more prosperous development, aiming to secure a more prominent position in the global tourism market.

During the Q&A session, students actively participated and raised numerous questions and Dr. Zhang Jianzhong kindly answered all the questions. Through this lecture, students gained a deeper understanding of the current state and future prospects of Macau's tourism industry. They also strengthened their confidence and enthusiasm for the industry, laying a solid foundation for their future studies and career development.

Dr. Zhang Jianzhong, Chairman of the China Travel Service (Macau) Limited is also a current member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macau SAR. He actively participates in economic development, social and political affairs, and cultural advancement. He serves as a member of the Election Committee for the Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, a member of the Tourism Development Committee of the Macao SAR Government, a member of the Urban Planning Committee of the Macao SAR Government, the Council member and the Council Standing Committee member of the Macao University of Tourism (UTM), Chairman of the Association of Macao Tourist Agents, and Chairman of the Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association.
