Led by Mr. Ao Pak Loi, Member of the University Council of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Prof. Ben K. Goh, Dean of the MUST Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM), a 14-member delegation of faculty members, students, and alumni conducted a five-day academic exchange in Guizhou from July 11 to 15, 2025. Supported by the Macau Guizhou Associations Federation and accompanied by Mr. Kong Xianglong, Director of the Third Division of the United Front Work Department of Guizhou Provincial CPC Committee, the visit aimed to deepen higher education collaboration and cultural tourism industry integration while expanding practical platforms for students.
The delegation’s first stop featured a visit to Guizhou Normal University (GZNU), warmly hosted by Vice President Lu Yanli. During the symposium, MUST Council Member Mr. Ao Pak Loi emphasized that Guizhou’s rich cultural tourism resources complement MUST’s internationalized curriculum system perfectly, and our partnership will catalyze talent flow between the Greater Bay Area and Western China. Prof. Wu Jiani, Dean of GZNU’s School of International Tourism and Culture, proposed concrete initiatives including joint postgraduate training bases and co-developed intangible cultural heritage tourism programs, receiving enthusiastic endorsement from both institutions. The delegation later experienced the Red Ribbon exhibition—China’s first immersive digital showcase of Long March history—gaining insights into innovative revolutionary heritage preservation.

At Moutai Institute, MUST delegates engaged in focused discussions with Vice Presidents Zhang Chunlin and Yan Songxian. Dean Prof. Ben K. Goh highlighted, Moutai’s industrial practices offer invaluable case studies for tourism education. We can advance collaboration in sommelier certification programs and distillery experiential learning. The delegation toured the China Liquor Culture Museum and local sauce-flavor liquor distilleries to enrich curriculum development.

The tour culminated at Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area, where delegates met Mr. Xie Jiehao, Deputy Director of Guizhou Provincial CPPCC’s Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan & Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee and Co-founder of Huangguoshu × B.Duck Drifting Park. Associate Dean and Alumni Association Vice Chairman of Executive Committee Prof. Wong Weng Chou noted, The B.Duck IP’s crossover model inspires new approaches to transform creative projects into student internship platforms. Both parties discussed talent cultivation for theme park management and the integration of Macau’s cultural elements into tourism products.

FHTM Alumni representation featured Chairman of General Assembly Patrick Wong Fai; Chairman of Executive Committee David Ao Ka Wai; Vice President Liu Yangzi; Vice Chairman of General Assembly Sophia Zhou Huizhi and Sam Li Suinan; Member of Executive Committee Jenny Wang Huijun alongside alumni Sing Zhu Siying and Lucy Yang Yingcheng.
Dean Prof. Ben K. Goh summarized that this journey transcends academic exchange—it’s an industrial empowerment initiative. This trip achieved tangible progress in three areas: building a talent ecosystem with GZNU, co-creating liquor tourism pedagogy with Moutai Institute, and pioneering creative industry pathways via B.Duck MUST will advance faculty-student exchange programs and position Macau as an international gateway for Guizhou’s cultural resources.
