Smart Tourism Operations and Management, chief-edited by Professor Jose Weng Chou Wong, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), was officially published and released by Huazhong University of Science & Technology Press in April 2026. This textbook is a 15th Five-Year Plan premium textbook for tourism management in higher education institutions and a supporting planning textbook for the Ministry of Education's pilot undergraduate comprehensive reform project in tourism management.
As the first smart tourism-related textbook in this series, Smart Tourism Operations and Management is based on industry development trends and higher education teaching needs. It systematically integrates theoretical foundations, key technologies, and typical application scenarios, aiming to build a knowledge system for readers that is academic, practical, and forward-looking.

This textbook was led by Professor Jose Weng Chou Wong as the chief editor, with an associate editor team including his doctoral students Jingye Du, Yangpeng Lin, and others, who deeply participated in the textbook writing, content planning, and data organization. Chief Editor Professor Jose Weng Chou Wong has long been engaged in research in fields such as smart tourism, risk management, and tourist experience, publishing more than 50 SSCI and SCI papers in the past five years. Many of these papers have been selected as ESI global highly cited papers; he has also won the Outstanding Achievement Awards for Macao in Humanities and Social Sciences multiple times, and has led or participated in several national-level and Macau SAR government projects.
The textbook centers on smart tourism and is divided into two major sections: the theory section and the practice section. The theory section focuses on explaining the connotation, theoretical framework, technical support of smart tourism, and its relationship with sustainable development, helping readers grasp the basic logic and development context of smart tourism as a whole. The practice section focuses on specific scenarios such as smart tourism destinations, smart travel agencies, smart hotels, smart MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), and smart study tours, presenting diverse practical paths of smart tourism in the industry through case studies and application demonstrations.
The publication of Smart Tourism Operations and Management will inject new momentum into talent cultivation, theoretical research, and industry practice in the field of smart tourism.
