To celebrate M.U.S.T.’s 25th Anniversary, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) held the third lecture of “Seminars by Masters from Tourism Industry” on April 11th, 2025 at D Hall. Mr. Dong Wang, General Manager of Luxury Hotel was invited as the guest speaker and provided an inspiring lecture entitled “Current Status and Trends of China's Hotel Industry from an Operational Perspective”. Dr. Wong Weng Chou, Assistant Dean of FHTM, Program Director Dr. Feng Yan, Program Director Pan Su Ying and more than 400 teachers and students attended the seminar.

During the speech, Mr. Wang Dong sharing his extensive industry insights. He emphasized that students majoring in hotel management must not only master theoretical knowledge but also continuously enhance their professional competencies. He noted that China’s rapidly expanding hotel industry now faces challenges such as existing competition and heightened market demands. During the lecture, Mr. Wang provided an in-depth analysis of the sector’s current landscape, highlighting sustained growth in the mid-to-high-end market and intensifying competition. He underscored that the rise of branded hotels and accelerated chainization are driving the industry into a new era prioritizing technological innovation and service quality.
Mr. Wang further stressed that cross-resource integration, improved management efficiency, and strengthened brand development will be critical to the future of the hospitality sector. Drawing from his professional experience, he reminded students that while AI and other technologies are reshaping the industry, human service and emotional connections remain irreplaceable.

During the Q&A session, students actively asked questions regarding customer loyalty in the hotel industry and emerging markets. Mr. Wang patiently answered each question and acknowledged the students' knowledge of hotel management. Through this lecture, students gained confidence in the future development of the hotel industry and gained clearer direction for their career planning.
FHTM Students Interacted with Guest Speaker
Mr. Wang Dong has over 30 years of experience in hotel and company management, having served as a general manager in state-owned enterprises (ranked 63rd in the world), municipal state-owned enterprises (ranked 169th in China), foreign companies, and publicly listed hotel management companies. He has held significant positions in international luxury brands and five-star hotels. Mr. Wang possesses extensive experience in hotel openings, operations, star ratings, and brand transformation, with the hotels he has managed generating an average annual revenue exceeding 100 million yuan.
Mr. Wang is recognized as a high-level talent in Hainan Province and Guangdong Province, receiving multiple awards from the Zhuhai and Sanya municipal governments, as well as special talent recognition from the Hengqin New Area. Mr. Wang has served as an executive director of the Guangdong Tourism Association and held vice-presidencies in several tourism associations, as well as important positions in various cultural and tourism-related committees in Zhuhai.
