2025 "Things Graduate Students MUST Know": Effective Storytelling and Literature Review

The event "Things Graduate Students MUST Know: “Effective Storytelling and Literature Review" hosted by the Student Union of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) of Macau University of Science and Technology, and sponsored by the Macau Foundation, was successfully held on April 23, 2025, in Room N317.

The event invited the widely popular Associate Professor Su-Ying Pan and Assistant Professor Chao Liu from the FHTM to be the keynote speakers. They give a speech focusing on literature review writing skills, provides practical guidance for master's and doctoral students, helping to enhance the expressiveness and research depth of their papers. Associate Professor Weng-Chou Wong, Assistant Dean of FHTM, Associate Professor Chen-Kuo Pai, the event organizer, and other representatives of teachers and students participated together.

Associate Dean Weng-Chou Wong delivered opening speak. Then assistant Professor Chao Liu systematically explained literature review structures and writing skills through his published international journal articles, emphasizing the importance of "dialogue among different literature." Associate Professor Su-Ying Pan, from a practical perspective and with her rich experience as a reviewer, analyzed the common problems that graduate students encounter in writing literature reviews through real cases. She emphasized that literature should not be simply listed but presented in a clear logical framework to demonstrate academic value. Both speakers, at the end of their speeches, focused on the role of AI in paper writing. They reminded the graduate students of our college that when using AI, they should pay attention to the authenticity of the content and learn to effectively utilize AI.

This lecture closely focused on the core challenges of academic writing. By integrating theoretical analysis with practical experience, it provided strong assistance to postgraduate students in improving the quality of their papers and enhancing their personal academic literacy. It also contributed to creating an innovative and pragmatic academic atmosphere in the college.
