MUST Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Hosts 2025/2026 New Student Orientation: Inspiring New Students to Explore Their Mission and Embrace Diverse Learning Opportunities

To welcome the new academic year and help new students integrate into university life, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) at Macau University of Science and Technology held its New Student Orientation on August 29, 2025. The event was attended by over 380 students and faculty, creating a warm and vibrant atmosphere.

In his opening address, Dean Professor Ben K. Goh extended a warm welcome to the new students and encouraged them to strive for holistic development during their four years at the university. He emphasized the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being, building meaningful relationships, and cultivating a global perspective and professional competence. Dean Goh also urged students to actively participate in various activities, including academic competitions, summer programs, student services, and international exchanges, to enrich their learning experiences and broaden their horizons.

Assistant Dean Professor Jose Wong Weng Chou then introduced the faculty’s development history, teaching team, and resources, providing newcomers with a comprehensive overview of FHTM’s academic strengths and learning environment. Excellent student representative Musky Shen Beiyi from the Bachelor of International Tourism Management program also shared his personal journey. He encouraged his fellow students to explore their passions, discover their mission, and pursue their goals with dedication and enthusiasm. He highlighted that true happiness comes from wholehearted engagement in what one loves, rather than merely chasing external achievements.

During the ceremony, Dean Goh presented the FHTM Excellence Awards for the 2024–2025 academic year. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to members of the FHTM Student Consultative Committee, and the FHTM Team Excellent Helper Award was granted to several outstanding student helpers in recognition of their contributions to faculty activities and services.

Ms. Lisa Gu, President of the FHTM Student Union, introduced the union’s structure and annual activities, encouraging new students to get involved and enhance their university experience through extracurricular engagement. Mr. Sam Li, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the FHTM Alumni Association, welcomed the newcomers on behalf of the alumni community and emphasized the role of the association in connecting current students with graduates, providing ongoing support and networking opportunities.

The orientation concluded with a group photo, capturing the joyful and hopeful spirit of the event. Following the ceremony, program introduction sessions were held in different classrooms, where program directors detailed the curriculum, learning objectives, and future development paths of each program, helping new students better plan their academic journey.

The orientation not made new students feel welcomed and supported but also inspired them to look forward to a fulfilling and dynamic university life, marking a promising start to the new academic year.
