MUST FHTM Visits Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing

A delegation from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management of Macau University of Science and Technology led by Dean Professor Ben Goh and accompanied by Program Directors Dr. Feng Yan and Dr. Liu Yingni, visited Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing, renowned for its deep community integration, on May 12th, 2026. The hotel was recently ranked 14th in the world and first in Mainland China in the “World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025” list, with its distinctive community-integrated model attracting international attention. The visit was hosted by Mr. Richard Langonné, Beijing Cluster General Manager of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, with the participation of Hotel Manager Mr. Cedric Martin, Cluster Director of People and Culture Ms. Molly Yang and Assistant Director of P&C Ms. Ada Liu. The delegation was guided throughout by MUST alumna Ms. Karlie Mei, a member of the hotel team, who provided detailed insights into how the hotel achieves a harmonious blend of traditional cultural heritage and contemporary service excellence through its organic integration into the Qianmen hutong community.

Guided by the hotel’s team, the faculty representatives focused on the hotel’s innovative approaches in spatial design, community engagement, and sustainable practices, gaining an understanding of how it builds deep connections with the hutong neighborhood. Professor Ben Goh commented, Mandarin Oriental Qianmen not only delivers high-quality luxury service but also fully embodies the unique value of a hotel as an integral part of the local community through its organic integration into the neighborhood fabric. This model of symbiotic development with the community provides a vivid and valuable practical case for hospitality and tourism management education.

The visit offered significant insights for the Faculty’s industry-integrated teaching and learning. Following the tour, both parties held in-depth and fruitful discussions, reaching multiple collaborative agreements in areas such as talent development, internship programs, and case study research. Together, they explored innovative pathways and industry responsibilities for the hospitality sector in promoting urban sustainable development and fostering community integration.
